Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on the part of Montreal that is known as the West Island. In reality, the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is an extensive region that runs from Lachine all the way west. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was not long. Brugel began her life in Courtice close to Oshawa. The first goal she had was to be a professional dancer. However, the rapid growth of her body led to she literally outgrew her dance partners. According to an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. Once I had outgrown my male friends, I quit. In Brugel's case, it was her encouragement from the drama instructor at her high school which inspired her to start acting. The teacher suggested that she take on a part in the school's annual production. A teacher suggested that she pursue a role in the annual school production. She was awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to study at York University's theatre Program in 2000. She graduated from the program in 2000, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts. In the last 20 years her career has seen her appear in over 60 shows and films. Her most famous role was that of Rita (shown in the video below) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian participant for Season 1 of the show and was only seen occasionally.
